Poker Loses Its Sport Status In Russia

Poker has officially been stripped of its sports standing inside Russia right after the government further clamped down on its efforts to ban casinos during the country and restrict gambling to 4 places exclusively.
Poker's standing as a sport meant certain casinos could exploit a loophole in the law and proceed to operate as card halls but the government has now firmly place its foot down with Vitaly Mutko, minister of sports activities, tourism and youth politics, announcing that poker doesn't exist as a sport.
On the ministry site on Monday no space for doubt was left when Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev and Prosecutor Standard Yury Chaika posted a decree ordering their officers to decisively clamp down on unlawful gambling exercise, including that completed on the Net, via poker clubs, fruit machines, and so on.
Vitaly Mutko, is now saying that like poker in Russia's official record of sports activities was a clear violation of the law since: The determination to incorporate poker on the sports register was supposed to be produced by a unique ministerial commission, not by the administration of the Russian Sports activities Agency. In addition, the choice was supposed to be registered in the Justice Ministry, which did not take place,
Dmitry Lesnoy, the president of Russia's Sports activities Federation exclaimed: We are quite sorry to drop our picture in the eyes of the worldwide poker community that was hoping to see the European Poker Tournament in Moscow this yr. It will be a excellent pity for us if Russian poker stars move abroad to play beneath the flags of other nations. But we have to accept the inevitable,
The fate of the European Poker Tournament which was expected to be held in Moscow this August is now unclear. This however is unlikely to concern Prime Minister Vladimir Putin who has continued with his countrywide ban on what he considers gambling and said he will clamp down on any attempts to disguise gambling as other actions. At current the only gambling exercise allowed in Russia is bookmaking but it looks even this might not be secure as the Russian parliament are now thinking about draft laws to severely restrict this as well.
