User Description: Can anybody explain this to me? Any ASMR artists offer their take?I've noticed several changes in content over the last couple years as ASMR has become more mainstream. One positive is that the bar has been raised with regards to how professionally produced videos are: better cameras, better mics e.c.t. which is nice. But by far the most noticeable is how overtly sexual ASMR videos are getting. Personally i find it really distracting and even uncomfortable, but it also just baffles me with all the free porn on the internet (which I have nothing against whatsoever) why there is such a demand for sexual ASMR content.Up until a few months ago I would occasionally introduce friends to ASMR, but there is no way i would any more. With attractive female ASMR artists being most popular, there was always a chance of it being misunderstood. I would always firmly and confidently assure my friends that it was not sexual. Now there is no misunderstanding to be had, some videos clearly are intentionally sexual, and I'm struggling to convince myself.Apologies if this topic has been discussed a lot here. I've been watching asmr for a 2/3 years, and been on reddit for longer, but I rarely check this sub. There's your answer. As ASMR has become (a little) more mainstream, the number of content creators and the numbers of viewers has increased significantly.Sex sells. That is a universal rule.In advertising, in art, in video games, and yes: even in ASMR.Hot girls get extra views just for being hot. That's true. That's annoying to some. But that's not ever going to change. Welcome to real life.A good analogy I remember seeing somewhere on this very forum is that ASMR is like cartoons: there is nothing inherently sexual about a cartoon, but that doesn't stop people from making sexually explicit cartoons. Tape ASMR But putting all of that aside for the moment, I am not convinced this is as strong of a trend as you are suggesting.Yes, there is more sexual ASMR content. But there was ALWAYS some sexual ASMR content. There is also more non-sexual ASMR content. A LOT more.I think the percentages have stayed pretty constant, TBH.Finally, a bit of advice:But by far the most noticeable is how overtly sexual ASMR videos are getting. Personally i find it really distracting and even uncomfortable...Nobody is forcing you to watch videos that make you uncomfortable.FWIW, I tend to agree with you. If I wanna' watch porn, I don't head to an ASMR channel for that. LEWD ASMR But I don't get the big deal: just 'x'-out of the video and go find another one...I think some people get strong tingles from complaining... Its the typical "this was so much better back in the day". Asmr isnt different, there are just more types of asmr, choose the one you like and let others enjoy what they like. Some people enjoy more sexual triggers, and there is nothing wrong with that. Why do people still think being sexual is a sin? Have we not come further?I don't care about the sexual nature of some videos, people can do whatever they want. However, I think OPs point of it being kind of weird to introduce other people into ASMR without them thinking it's some fetish thing has some merit. It's hard enough explaining why I sit in my office with the lights all off staring at a super closeup of some girls face while she moves her hands around the camera. Without people looking it up on their own and seeing a bunch of weird whispery sexual content thinking i'm somehow getting off on it.Although I was in the camp of finding roleplays weird when that all first started. It was just a strange aspect of something that started from watching people quietly work on or explain something. But that is completely from the pov of someone else who doesn't know anything about ASMR judging me based on what the now can find by looking it up.Personally, again, I could care less what people create as long as there are still people creating the content that I enjoy.
